KARIKATTU KUPPAM AND GHOST BEACH

KARIKATTU KUPPAM AND THE GHOST BEACH

2004 Tsunami in chennai ruined many lives , especially of people living near the coast line. Karikattu kuppam is no exception, this small coastal village, has been destroyed completely and no one living in the area survived the natural disaster.

After this gory incident no person came to live in this place. This village remains deserted till date. There are alleged sightings of  ghosts who lived in the village and died due to tsunami. These ghosts don't do any harm and just wander  around the place.

The beach in this area thus came to be called as "ghost beach". The visitors to this beach claim to have seen wandering ghosts .

If we think about this phenomenon rationally, the sightings of ghosts can be explained as the imagination of the visitors. For all that we know these can be stories that were created for hype. The scientific theory of "survival guilt" comes into place  if we think of the ghost of dead people. The ghost stories are nothing but lores created by the locals for the purpose of sensation.

  1. the sightings of the karikatu kuppam village may have occured because people know that the villagers are no more. hence they might have had such hallucinations.

  2. this story behind karikattu kuppam village has no factual base and is mostly passed around by the neighbouring villagers. It is not to be taken seriously and we should not encourage such folklores

  3. if the hauntings are said to be true, then why not other places hit by tsunami did not have any hauntings? people were dead there too.hence this is a cooked up story.

  4. karikattu kuppam is not the only place to have ghostly sightings. I don't know the reason as to why this place is creating such a hype in the internet.
